Soy candles burn longer and cleaner than paraffin, but getting the most out of them means following a few simple rules.
How to Burn Your Candle Correctly
- Trim the wick to 5mm before every light. This prevents smoking and an oversized flame.
- The first burn is critical. Let the candle burn until the entire top layer melts edge-to-edge (2–3 hours). This prevents tunnelling.
- Keep it away from drafts. Drafts cause uneven burning and push the flame into the glass.
- Burn for 2–4 hours per session. Never more than 4 hours at a time.
- Extinguish with a snuffer, not by blowing.
- Stop at 1cm of wax. Never burn below 1cm.
