Kookaburra – Cinnamon & Orange

Nothing sounds more like an Aussie Christmas than a kookaburra laughing from the trees while the barbie warms up. Ours has dressed for the occasion: Santa hat on, perched on a branch among white blossoms and cinnamon sticks, with a soft blush wash of watercolour orange slices behind.

The scent is Cinnamon Orange: sunny citrus wrapped in warm spice. Bright enough for a December afternoon, cosy enough for Christmas Eve. Paula designed the artwork herself and had it sublimated onto the jar, so this kookaburra lives only at Smelty. Lift the lid and there’s one more surprise: watercolour eucalyptus leaves printed around the inside rim.

Candle care: Trim the wick to about 5 mm before every burn. On the first burn, let the wax melt right out to the edge of the jar so it doesn’t tunnel. Burn on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts, curtains and anything flammable. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it out of reach of children and pets. Stop burning when about 1 cm of wax remains.
